Sushi Scarf.

I wanted to knit a scarf that rolled up and looked like a piece of sushi. I could only find patterns for a crochet scarf. This was really easy to make. If I did it again, though, I would have added some red or yellow or used a different green where the 'cucumber' pieces are.

Almost good enough to eat!

So, I'm currently working on another project that is taking me forever. This weekend I had had enough and wanted something faster that I could get done in no time, sooo.. I cast on with my Encore Mega and my size 15 needles and whipped this up over the course of two days.

Just a basic K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1 pattern.
I used almost 2 skeins of this stuff. It is super soft and snuggly.
I wore it while I walked to work yesterday and it kept me warm!

This post is for my Aunt Julie who has been bullying me to update my blog with some more finished work! I started right before Christmas and made two of these scarves. One in a solid brown and one variegated.

I used 2 skeins of Plymouth Yarn Boku for the colorful one and 2 skeins of Brown Sheep Prairie Silks in Burnished Copper for the solid brown. The brown was given to my grandmother as a Christmas gift, and she loved it.

The pattern for this wonderful scarf can be found here. Thanks Hockey Mom.
FYI - both scarves curl up into themselves so they look more like a tube. I haven't tried blocking either one of them yet, but it might be worth a try.

Easy Lace Scarf:
pattern from Knitter's Review

I have to say that I'm really proud of this scarf. It is the first time I've knit anything that wasn't just plain garter or stockinette stitch. I had always turned my cheek on anything that had to do with increasing or decreasing or slipping stitches. I was pleasantly surprised at how EASY this pattern was to follow -- after a few sets of the sequence it gets memorized and you can just go with it. Whoo hoo!

I used plain old RedHeart acrylic yarn for this, but I'd like to try making it with a lacy yarn so that the "holes" for the lace look are more visible.

I just wanted to say, for anyone who might be reading my blog here, that I have a couple works in progress. One that may be finished today and another that I just started. They're pretty great patterns and I can't wait to share them with you.

I wanted a fun scarf that was super skinny and versatile enough to be worn as a headband, so I whipped this up. It only took about 4 hours, but probably would have taken less time if I were solely focused on just the scarf.

You need:
Size 11 straight needles
Any color yarn you want
Crochet hook for tucking in the tails

Directions:
Cast on 110-130 stitches with color A
Row 1 - knit with color A
Rows 2-7 knit with color B
Rows 8-9 knit with color A
Bind off

I named this project after my mother, as this gift was a gift for her 11/28 birthday.

You need:

  • 10.5 straight knitting needles
  • 1 skein RedHeart EasyTweed; Coffee
  • Crochet hook for weaving in tails
  • 2-3 "buttons" (optional)

Directions:

  • Cast on 30 stitches
  • Knit each row until there is 2-4" left on skein
  • Bind off
  • Weave in tails
You will now have a very short scarf. Manipulate it by folding in different ways until you create the look you want. Pin it in place. Use a needle & thread to sew only the front of the scarf in place so it doesn't flop around. When I made this one, I left the sides & back unsewn, just folded, so that my mother could essentially unfold it so it covered her ears if she wanted. The "buttons" are not functional and are just decoration, but I thought it looked better with them.
